Singapore, 1 March 2024 - Hosted by the German European School Singapore (GESS) and driven by Volkswagen Singapore, the annual GESS Volkswagen Cup returns from 1 to 3 March 2024.

2024 marks the Cup's 17th edition, and 400 players aged eight to 16 years old are expected to participate this year, comprising over 30 teams from eight schools.

Football runs deeply and historically through Volkswagen's DNA worldwide, with a rich history in the sport both on the big stage and at grass-roots level. One outstanding example is its involvement in the German Football Association (DFB) and the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA). VfL Wolfsburg, a fully owned subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, functions as a flagship among the club partnerships.

Volkswagen's dedication to sport does, however, extend far beyond top-class and professional sport with its huge audience, and pursues an inclusive approach that explicitly encompasses amateur and popular sports as well. The GESS Volkswagen Cup continues the brand's commitment in embracing the passion, unity and diversity that comes with the footballing way of life.

With the support of Volkswagen, participants in the GESS VW Cup are provided with event football jerseys, medals, trophies, as well as access to professional referee services, scoring, and first aid assistance.

"At the heart of Volkswagen is a commitment to democratisation and diversity - not just in the cars we create but in every aspect of what we do. Through initiatives like We Drive Football, the Volkswagen brand has long stood by amateurs and professionals of all ages and genders in the pursuit of the world's favourite sport. It's a tradition we proudly continue in Singapore, providing a platform for young talents to showcase their skills and celebrate their achievements," said Moritz Huss, General Manager of Volkswagen Singapore.

Likewise, sport and related partner collaborations have always been a big part of campus activities and student life at GESS, in addition to language, science, art and music. The school believes in sport being a crucial part of children's developmental years, and make available a large variety of sports and CCAs for students to experience, explore and cultivate their passion in.

For students who are keen in competitive sport, GESS has also been creating opportunities in and out of Singapore to showcase their talents.

Mr Stefan Pauli, Principal of GESS shares, "GESS is privileged to once again partner Volkswagen Singapore in this anticipated event, into its 17th year. Sports is very much ingrained in our school culture, as part of ensuring our students' holistic development, both in and out of the classroom. This is demonstrated in how we have incorporated sports into one of our strategic priorities, in GESS' five-year Limitless Learning Plan. Embracing an inclusive approach to sports - be it competitive or otherwise - we are investing more resources into creating even more opportunities for our students to explore and develop a passion for sports and physical exercise. Volkswagen's commitment to this resonates strongly with us."

The GESS Volkswagen Cup is happening this Friday to Sunday at the German European School (2 Dairy Farm Lane, Singapore 67762), from:
