1970: The year our electric journey began
The first all-electric Volkswagen, dubbed the Elektro Transporter, began testing in 1972, with a range of 43.5 miles, a top speed of 43.5 miles per hour and could fully charge in 10 hours from a conventional home plug point.
Volkswagen continued developing the Elektro Transporter, building as many as 70 versions between 1973 and 1975. Two short years later, it went on sale to the public and 20 were sold under the memorable slogan: “Zero litres per 100 kilometres!

Revolutionising power
The ID. Family introduces the groundbreaking Modular Electric Drive Matrix (MEB), tailored exclusively for electric vehicles. At the heart of this system lies an advanced fast-charging battery unit, customisable with varying numbers of battery modules to meet diverse range preferences. Each module boasts 12 lithium-ion battery cells, engineered in a 'pouch cell' configuration. This design features multiple stacked or folded active layers encased within a flexible outer film, ensuring exceptional adaptability to unique vehicle specifications. The smooth surface of pouch cells enhances heat dissipation, further optimising performance and durability.

What’s different about an electric service?
When you bring your electric vehicle in for a service, we check for all the usual service items legal requirements, such as wear on the braking system, your headlights, suspension, and tyre condition.
But your electric car service will also include the following checks:
-
High-voltage battery: we check the charge level and recharge if necessary
-
High-voltage components and high-voltage cables: we inspect these for damage and correct routing and securing of lines
Unlike petrol and diesel vehicles, electric vehicles don't need an oil change - because there's no oil to change! This can also save you money.
